Support Murder, She Told

Murder, She Told will always be free to listen to, but it’s expensive to produce. Since 2020, all costs have come from my personal pocket and savings because I love what I do and I believe in the impact of this show. At this moment, the investment is far greater than the sponsors we’ve received.

Your direct support goes back into this show to help with costs like newspapers and subscriptions, website and hosting costs, fees for records, documents, and other archive requests, flyers and missing persons posters, donations to support families, and more.

Thank you for supporting the show. If you’re interested and able to support in other ways, here are some options that range from free to you to direct support.

Books Featured on Murder, She Told

The Murder of Mary Bean and Other Stories

This book was featured in the Brutal Death of Berengera Caswell. It’s the story of a young mill worker in 1849 who was killed during a botched abortion. The trial of the doctor was sensational, and inspired two fictional victorian crime novellas. Elizabeth DeWolfe included both historic novellas that captured New England, printed together for the first time.

Wicked Intentions

This book was featured in the three part series on New Hampshire serial killer, Sheila LaBarre. Author Kevin Flynn spoke with Sheila in prison and crafted the most descriptive portrait of not only her life, but the lives of her known victims and how they came to be tangled up in Sheila’s web.

Lay Them to Rest by Laurah Norton of The Fall Line

Lay Them to Rest

I was fortunate to receive an advanced reader copy of my friend, Laurah Norton’s (from The Fall Line podcast) book and it did not disappoint. It chronicles her work with unidentified persons, and gives readers an intimate an empathetic look into the world of the people passionate of bringing names back to the nameless. This book is unlike anything I’ve ever read, and a must read for true crime fans.

The Lost Girls by Robert Kolker

Lost Girls

This book was featured in the Megan Waterman episodes, and is about the search for answers in the Long Island Serial Killer case. It’s a look into the families fighting for justice, with a focus on Mari Gilbert’s (mother of Shannan Gilbert) quest to find her then-missing daughter. It was the first piece of media made about LISK that humanized the women, and was made into a movie on Netflix.

The life of Martha Ballard - A Midwife's Tale

Martha Ballard’s Diary

This book was featured in the James Purrington Family Massacre. Martha Ballard’s diary was one of the most influential pieces of accidental literature to give us a glimpse into early settlement life in New England. It was turned into a PBS Documentary called A Midwife’s Tale. Martha lived next to James Purrington and his family and helped try to nurse his daughter back to health.

New England Book Favorites

Lost on a Mountain in Maine

I still have my Don Fendler signed copy from fourth grade. This is a Maine staple children’s book about a 12-year-old boy who got lost on Mount Katahdin in 1939 and survived for 9 days before rescue. This book is a memoir about his survival journey and a fantastic true adventure book for all ages.

Stephen King’s IT

This couldn’t be a Maine list without Stephen King. I grew up in the very area where IT takes place (fictional Derry, ME), and Stephen King so masterfully captures the underlying darkness and despair that contrasts the small town closeness and beauty of the state. Don’t let the size of this book scare you. It’s a fantastic read for any horror fan.

Stranger in the Woods

Stranger in the Woods is the strange and fascinating story of Christopher Thomas Knight, more famously known as the North Pond Hermit, a man who lived off the grid in solitude for 27 years in the woods of Maine, surviving by petty theft of essentials from closed up camps to stay alive during Maine’s brutal winters.

Everyday Favorites

Slim Modern Insulated Tumbler

I drink a LOT of water, especially on recording days, and this is one of my favorite go-to’s for making sure I’m drinking enough. I love how sleek it looks and it’s insulated if you want to keep your drinks cold. I have the rose gold 24 oz tumbler and I try to drink at least 3-4 of them per day. My favorite is with a little lemon. I like to think this cup makes me drink more water, but either way, it’s always by my side throughout the day working on the show!

Bluelight Glasses

These are hands down my most used daily item. I wear them literally all day long. I work on my laptop for at least 8-10 hrs a day on average and want to protect my eyes as much as possible. I’ve honestly noticed a huge difference. I love these Meetsun ones and there are so many colors to choose from (and you get 2 pairs and a little care kit!). I probably have the leopard print ones on right now!

Matte Claw Hair Clips

I’ve always been a hair-out-of-my-face person when I’m working, and I also like to have as little damage as possible when keeping my hair away from my face (definitely guilty of past damage!), so I’ve been loving these claw clips! I love the simple matte design and usually keep one on the table next to me. I love that they’re super affordable and come in packs of 4. I have these neutral colored ones and use them all the time. Definitely one of my top picks!
